Celtics shred the Nets, confetti-style
Boston jumped on the Kyrie Irving-led Nets and never let up in defeating Brooklyn by 43 points - yes, 43 points! - in a 139-96 victory.
BOSTON – The Boston Celtics boo-birds were out in full force Wednesday night at the TD Garden, doing what they do whenever Brooklyn Net/former Celtic Kyrie Irving returns - boo the hell out of him every time he touches the ball.
It would have been low-hanging fruit for the focus of this game to be on Irving, who has been on his best behavior since returning to the team on a full-time status basis.
Some want to believe he’s a changed man whose focus is on the job that he does at an extremely elite level - playing basketball.
Others point to this being “Contract Kyrie” doing what he has to do in order to convince the Nets or some other team in the association, to view him as more of a roster help than a headache and offer him a multi-year, max contract during the offseason.
But Wednesday’s game, if anything, served as a reminder that despite how talented Irving may be as an individual, the collective strength of Boston’s core is just too much for him and the Nets to contend with.
