A new voice looking to create drama between Tatum and Brown
Dallas Mavs coach Jason Kidd and his comments about Jaylen Brown is the latest effort to sow seeds of discord between Brown and Jayson Tatum, Boston's two youthful superstars.
BOSTON — As a player, Jason Kidd did whatever he could to win or at a minimum, swing a game’s momentum in his team’s favor.
Like in 2010, as a member of the Dallas Mavericks, he intentionally ran into then-Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Woodson who was near the sideline.
Or the time in 2013 as the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets, he told a player to “hit me” so he would spill his drink onto the floor, causing a stoppage of play and with that, give him a free time-out.
At the time, both moves were seen as savvy gamesmanship.
But the truth is, both were also clear signs of desperation on his part.
That gamesmanship/desperation dynamic was on full display Saturday with some of Kidd’s comments made to the media when in fact, they were low-key aimed at sewing seeds of discord between Celtics stars Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.
